God Said Give ‘Em Drum Machines
Electronic Music Malta presents the screening of God Said Give ‘Em Drum Machines which is a documentary about the origins of Techno music in the heart of Detroit Michigan – USA in the 1980s.
The contributions of this American city to house and electronic music is often overshadowed by its popularity in places around the World such as Europe which has become the hub of this music culture. In this documentary, filmmaker, Kristian R. Hill introduces audiences to exactly where the sound was created and developed. Teens in Detroit were passionate about dance music and used this interest to learn to program drum machines and synthesizers and change the face of music around the world.
Starring Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Blake Baxter, Mike Huckaby, Eddie Fowlkes, Derrick May, Normski Anderson, Santonio Echols, Delano Smith, Greg Tate, Neil Rushton, Dimitri Hegemann, the Roland TR909, TR808 drum machines and various synthesizers that helped shape the techno and house music from this American city.
Prior to the screening, DJ Owen Jay will play a 30 minute dj-set.
