Rochelle Gatt

Dancer Rochelle Gatt is 32 years old and is a qualified radiographer. After pursuing a career in the medical field, Rochelle furthered her studies in dance at the University of Malta. In 2016, Rochelle was awarded a scholarship where she conducted research in Asturias (Spain) with Lucia Piquero and Joshua Cienfuegos. Between 2017 and 2019 she studied at the Accademia Teatro Dimitri in Switzerland where she was awarded a Masters for Physical Theatre. There she also produced her own solo production ‘The Nose Knows’.

As a freelancer, Rochelle participates in many interdisciplinary projects with international artists. She has performed solo works by Lucia Piquero (Spain) and Athanasia Kanellopoulou (Greece) and Contact Dance Company. Her main interests lie in contact improvisation, athleticism and acrobatics through movement as well as resistant fluidity. Rochelle’s present freelance projects include performance, pedagogy, direction and creating choreographies.

Rochelle lectures at The Malta College of Arts, Science & Technology (MCAST). Her tenants rely on the use of floor work, acrobatics and an understanding of animal behavioural instincts.
