Clare Ghigo
Mezzo soprano Clare Ghigo, a BOV Joseph Calleja Foundation scholar, holds a Master’s Degree in Opera Performance from Cardiff’s RWCMD. She has graced some of the best known stages in Europe, including the AlteOper in Frankfurt, Rathaus in Berlin and L’Hotel de Ville in Paris.
Clare’s operatic roles include Annio in Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito, Hansel in Humperdinck‘s Hansel and Gretel, the Third / Second Lady in Mozart’s Zauberflote. She played also the old Gypsy Woman in Rachmaninov’s Aleko and Speranza / Proserpina in Monteverdi’s Orfeo, Carmen in Bizet’s Carmen, Angelina in Rossini’s Cenerentola and Maria in Piazolla’s Maria de Buenos Aires.
In June 2021 she played the central role of the Trommler (the drummer) in Victor Ullmann’s The Emperor of Atlantis or Death’s Refusal.
Clare together with soprano Gillian Zammit and harpist Brit Arend form a harp trio.
Clare is also a versatile recital artist and has performed with acclaimed singers such as Joseph Calleja, Bryn Terfel, Anna Tomova Sintova, Nelly Miriciu, Monserrat Caballe. She performs with various ensembles, such as the Jeune Orchestre Atlantique, Guildhall Consort, VIBE, Rossini Ensemble, Ensemble Telemaque and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra with whom she also toured China.
